Summary

In this issue, art is in the spotlight. After a study about François-Joseph Bosio published in the previous issue of Annales monégasques, an article is now dedicated to his brother, the painter Jean-Baptiste Bosio. Moreover, another article deals with an anonymous album of drawings from the 19th century. The review also presents old maps and views of Monaco, as well as a study about names in the Monaco modern age society. (full texts in French)

Lord of Monaco from 1458 to 1494, Lambert was an eminent figure of Monaco’s history. Well knonw for having developed trade and the wellness of his subjects, he was also at the origine of the very stability of the lordship. His wife, Claudine of Monaco (1451-1515), is the daughter of Lord Catalan Grimaldi. She played an important part within the family and dedicated the rest of her life to her children when Lambert Grimaldi died. (full text in French)

In the 18th century, Marseille was the first place to exchange olive oil, despiste the plague in 1720. That’s the reason why Monaco, Menton and Roquebrune increased the commercial transaction with this city. In order to describe the negocaitions, the author relies on the archives of the “Bureau de la Santé Maritime” of Marseille. (full text in French)

After a study dedicated to the French sculptor François-Jospeh Bosio in the 9th issue of Annales monégasques, this article now refers to his elder brother, Jean-Baptiste-François Bosio. Born in 1764 in Monaco, the latter was a student of Jacques-Louis David. Painter, illustrator and engraver, he also became a drawing teacher at the polytechnic school. He died in July 1827. Relying on the parish registers held in the Monaco Mayor, the author deals with the names within the Monegasque society under the Spanish protectorate. Using statistic tools, she analyses a sample of 96 names for boys and 88 names for girls, and deduces the social background of that time. (full text in French)
